Sussex Hotel, Corner of Greetham Street, 1941

Caption: After the Guildhall was gutted in the blitz the area around the huge building was fenced off as a safety precaution. Life had to continue and people are pictured here waiting for buses and going about their normal business. Across the square the Sussex Hotel stands on the corner of Greetham Street, all of which is now covered by the Civic Office complex.

A large fence can be seen in the foreground partitioning an area of land off. Despite this, people are going about their days across this fairly open square with shops, a pub and hotel.
